This bird here shows some interesting detail on the rear fuselage. The damaged area appears to suggest wooden panels were used, rather than planks, at least on the upper layer.

This is one of the most interesting pictures I was able to find. It gives some good indications for the position of nails, which were supposed to connect the outer panels with the internal airframe. The sanded joints are also most interesting.
