Colors Good 4 Wood
No matter if you use decals or prefer a hand painted wood grain, as long as you work with translucent effects (decal/oil color glaze) you need a proper basecoat. Ideally,a basecoat includes preshading effects like brightened panel centers and/or light and shadow effects. In the following you find the products that I use the most. I have many more Browns and Yellow tones, but they collect pretty much dust. The colors in the following are the ones that have proven their effectiveness on a regular base.
Please check the examples of use on the bottom of this page.

Multi-Color-Basecoat System, using various yellow and orange tones, preshading, tinting and zenithal light effects.

1.) Basecoat Sandy Brown
2.) Sandy Brown + White in the

3.) Shades of Black, blended in with another layer of Sandy Brown
4.) White+Sandy Brown as a filter (by
Airbrush)
5.) Decal
6.) Accentuating with clear Orange

Base Colors

A standard tone when it comes to basecoats for Uschi´s wood grain decals. Brush the entire panel with this color, and bright up the center of the panel with Radome+white. Apply the decal. Perfect. Thats what I use all the time. Radome is a glossy color.

One of the toning/tinting colors for Radome. If you wanna have a little bit variation on the basecoat, mix Radome with Sail Color and break the monotony of the panel layout with that new mix. Its also a great postshading or preshading color for Radome. Should be part of your collection for wood colors. Just great. Sail Color is a flat color.

Transparent Finishing Colors
Clear colors are a neccessary asset in the color rack of many modelers. These colors work as acrylic filters and/or postshading colors. One can break up any monotony of almost any color by applying a thin coat of these. For the wood sets these colors represent a finishing product, allowing you to set light and shadow, depth and/or variation. Clear Yellow is one of the most important clear colors to me. This is a glossy color.

THE clear color in my collection. Smoothest edges, subtile changes in tone, zenithal light effects, postshading. Smoke (Clear Black actually to follow the logic) is one of the most effective acrylic finishing colors with myriades of possible application. This is a glossy color.

Its name reflects its programme: It great for tires because its like a "broken Black" or "off Black". Another major benefit of this stuff is when it´s used for preshading. Its more easy to make smooth and soft color gradiation compared to "Dead Black". This is a flat color.

Off white is something like a very, very bright grey. It is pretty handy for toning and brighten up colors when a standard White would be "too White". I use this color to brighten up panel centers and for zenithal light effects. One can actually say that this color is already "broken" i.e. faded and weathered. This is a glossy color.
